History
The Centre for Performance History was created as part of a major restructuring of the RCM undertaken in 2003-4, and came into being on 1 August 2004. It was formed by bringing together two well-established RCM Collections, the Museum of Instruments, and the Department of Portraits and Performance History. The Centre has facilities at two sites, the Museum of Instruments (which also has on display a few pictures from the College's collection) in South Kensington and the Portraits and Performance History Collection (PPHC) at Shepherd's Bush which houses the College's collection of performance-related archives and images. Visitor information
The Museum of Instruments at South Kensington is open to RCM students and staff, and members of the public (admission: free) on Tuesdays to Fridays from 11:30am to 4.30pm (closed for Christmas and Easter vacations); group/special visits and research access may also be arranged by prior appointment.
